1.2 billion dead in WW 3? That seems like a pretty small number. 1 in 6, or 1 in 7? I would think WW 3 would kill more.

@Dispenser and everyone else. During any extreme event you will always have a finite number of deaths and injuries. It is after the extreme event where the majority of deaths occur. If an all out nuclear exchange occurs. 1.2 billion seems like a reasonable number of instant deaths. After the fact is when disease, starvation and radiation begins to take effect. After the fact is when all of the nuclear plants in those EMP related zones begin their own Fukushima like meltdowns. Thus, magnifying the effects. So the real number in 10 or so years after the extreme event may in fact be extinction.
The ozone layered will be minimized or completely burned away. Thus, living above ground not very pleasant. The ground drinking water planet wide may become radioactively contaminated.
