3 Celebrity Divorces to Remember From 2012

With the end of the year approaching, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the celebrity divorces of 2012.

This year, we saw some high-profile celebrity divorces that we won’t soon forget.

Let’s start with the most high profile celebrity divorce of the year: TomKat. Alas, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes called it quits earlier this year after almost six years of marriage and one kid, Suri. The couple filed for divorce over the summer, with Holmes getting primary custody of Suri.

Moving on to Ashton and Demi. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore separated last year after Ashton was caught cheating with a young woman in San Diego. After that, however, divorce papers never came. Many speculated that divorce papers were lagging due to financial reasons. After all, the “Two and a Half Men” star was not making as much when he married Demi, who was a much bigger star at the time. As a result, their original prenuptial agreement might not have been as relevant at the time of the divorce.

Nevertheless, Ashton didn’t disappoint and filed for divorce just last week. Rumor has it that he’s getting serious with fellow actress Mila Kunis. As a result, if he plans to marry her, it wouldn’t be legally convenient for him to have another wife now, would it?

Closer to home, we had the breakup of Jessica and Ashley Simpson’s parents. Tina and Joe Simpson filed for divorce in October, citing “discord.” There was wild speculation about what led to the breakup, including rumors about Joe’s sexuality and an alleged extra-marital affair. Even if an affair was involved, Texas law would still allow the Simpsons to seek a divorce on the grounds of marital discord, which is Texas’ way of saying “no fault.”

In 2013, we’ll look for many of these divorces to be finalized. While the TomKat saga came to a close, the Ashton-Demi saga is only just beginning.
