Top 10 Most and Least Stressful Jobs of 2013

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The 2013 list is in for the least stressful jobs, and for the most stressful jobs as well. But don’t stress over it, we’re here to break it down for you.

University professor ranks No. 1 for the least stressful job, according to ABC News.

The list doesn’t really take into account whether this refers to tenured professors or all professors. As many in academia know, the tenure track does take a toll on professors.

The study, however, focused on factors such as working in the public eye, competitiveness, environmental conditions, life at risk and several others.

Job stress is very important to take into consideration and at times, the level of job stress can lead to legal liability for an employer.

While a stressful work environment in and of itself isn’t an actionable claim, the idea is that if the stress is brought on by another factor, such as discrimination, then it could be a viable lawsuit.

A hostile work environment can result in such a claim. This is brought about when the work environment makes it difficult, if not impossible, for the employee to conduct his or her daily duties.

But hostile work environments can only come about through forms of discrimination. If one is subject to discrimination as a result of a protected trait (i.e. race, gender or several other classes) then the employer should be mindful of a potential hostile work environment claim.

But going back to the main point, a stressful job isn’t technically a cause for a lawsuit, without more.

In fact, some employees have tried to raise claims saying that their employers contributed to their stress, causing the employee to become mentally ill. These claims haven’t been too successful when brought under the Americans With Disabilities Act, however.

Back to the list, after university professors, tailors apparently have the least stress, followed by medical records technicians.

On the flip side, enlisted military personnel have the most stressful jobs, followed by military generals, firefighters and commercial airline pilots, according to ABC News.
