Disney Cruise Tips

As a follow-up to our Disney Cruise Line review, we offer up the following tips to help you make the most of your Disney vacation:

• As soon as you receive your Disney Cruise Line booklet in the mail go online and reserve your check-in time slot for some time between 12-1:30pm.  There is no need to get there at 11AM just to wait for an hour before they begin checking people in at 12pm.
• Park offsite.  We stayed at the Radisson the night before and had a great night stay.  They offered parking for $5.95 a day which ended up being 25 dollars total.  That is a $50 savings!  They offer a FREE shuttle to and from the Disney Port – That is a GREAT DEAL!
• Keep your room key from your hotel to insert into the light switch so you do not have to use your Window to the World Key (see Negative comments).
• Arrive at the Port between the hours of 12:30 and 1:30.  You will miss the 11am rush of everyone who wants to be FIRST and you will arrive before the Disney Cruise Line buses that are transporting everyone from the Disney resorts (they arrive around 1:30).
• Bring your own lanyards with key sleeves (make sure the key sleeve either seals or zips closed).  This will keep you from losing your key and for paying a fortune to buy one on the ship.  Also, for the little ones they can wear their keys around their necks and not lose them.
• Bring an airplane size carry one for all your clothes.  This size luggage allows you to carry on all your suitcases so you do not need to wait to get your suitcase.
• Eat lunch first and make sure you wear your bathing suit so you can hit the Aqua Duck or pool directly after eating.
• Bring your own hand held sanitizer because they do not have any on the ship (other than the hand wipes which are not conveniently located).
• The Sail Away Party is fun but crowded, consider deck 12 for a less crowded experience.
• The Pirate night is a blast but the fireworks are just ok.  If you are tired or want to do something else then skip it.
• The Aqua Duck is closed during the fireworks but opens immediately after.  Wear your bathing suit to the Pirate Party so that you’re ready to get in line to ride over and over!
• Pack your own snorkel gear.   They charge to rent a snorkel and a mask and I don’t know about you but I do not want to put my mouth where someone else’s has been – YUCK!
• Little ones (and some big ones) will wish they had a wet suit when sailing during winter or spring when water temperatures are much cooler than the summer and fall months.  Consider investing in your own wetsuit since there are none for rent on Castaway Cay.
• SKIP The Villains show.
