Sleeping on Planes: 5 Tricks That Could Help You to Better Enjoy Your Plane Ride
Some people have the ability to doze off as soon as the plane starts moving and don’t wake up until the flight has reached its destination. For most people however, sleeping in planes is almost impossible. If you are part of the latter group, this article is for you.
Select the Window Seat
You will notice that most of the passengers on your flight will be clamoring for a window seat. A window seat is ideal for sleeping. Compared to the seats in the aisle and galley, there are few disturbances. If you are in the aisle, you will probably get bumped by every person passing through. You would also have to get up and make way if any of your neighbors wants to use the restroom. Find a window seat near the middle of the plane to improve your chances of falling asleep.
Dress Comfortably
You are on a flight, not at a social event. You don’t need to flaunt your toned body or dress as if you are attending a board meeting. Dress comfortably if you want to sleep. Wearing tight clothing is unconfortable and makes you feel hot. Dress comfortably and always have an extra layer of clothing on hand in case you feel cold. The same rules apply for your footwear. Don’t wear anything that is tight or cause your feet to ache. Sneakers or soft shoes are ideal.
Create a ‘Sleeping’ Environment
You can easily get distracted by the noise of the plane’s engine or your fellow passengers. Moreover, the bright lights aren’t exactly suitable to sleep under. Make sure you have the right equipment to create a sleeping environment, such as noise canceling headphones and an eye mask. Put them on and wander off into dreamland.
Use Sleeping Aids
Sleeping aids can help you support your head and neck while sleeping. If you don’t have the proper support, your neck can flop down in any direction. It is highly uncomfortable and you won’t be able to sleep for too long. You might even wake up with a neck ache. You can take a neck pillow or head rest in your carry on bag.
Don’t Drink Too Much
Avoid drinking too much water, alcohol, tea or coffee. Drinking excessive amounts of any beverage will require you to use the restroom from time to time. Furthermore, the caffeine will energize you and you will have a hard time falling asleep. Drink water but not more than a couple of glasses. No flight is long enough to dehydrate you so you don’t need to drink like a camel.
