Aloha, Holiday!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

There’s a reason why the word vacation instantly conjures up images of Hawaii’s lush scenery, beach party luaus, and righteous waves!  Hawaii is a living postcard of holiday sunshine and fun.  Its various islands boast a myriad of singular features and activities that include hiking volcanoes, surfing, cliff diving, beachcombing, and even hula dancing.  The best way to enrich your life with a Hawaiian vacation is to fly over and simply cruise the islands.  The subsequent text will provide everything from tips to save on airfare to what sites are must-see attractions.

Air Transportation

Securing a plane ticket is nearly always less expensive when you book your plans far in advance.  Of course, you can also save money on your tickets when you shop around; check out companies like Expedia and Travelocity for their rates.  Be sure to consult a travel agent; using a travel agent can result in big discounts and a trip that is truly tailored to your desired plans.  If you book the flight yourself, ask about available discounts and current promotions.

Cruising the Islands

While many of the big cruise lines offer cruises to and through the Hawaiian islands, some travelers feel like the time they spend at each island is just too short.  The advantage of flying to Hawaii and choosing an in-state cruise experience means more time to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii’s great attractions.  Norwegian Cruise Line offers renowned interisland cruises that allow visitors to experience the best of Hawaii over seven-days.  For a more private and personally-tailored experience, you can book with Hawaii Nautical and go island-hopping by catamaran, sailboat, or even yacht.  A large cruise provides the added bonus of secure accommodations and meals, but chartering a private yacht, while expensive, can be a luxurious option for people who like a more intimate holiday.

Be Sure to See…

Because cruising allows you to see and experience all the different facets of Hawaii, you’ll get a better sense of all the singular attractions of each island as opposed to remaining in one location or at one resort.  When you book your cruise, be sure to see if it includes these memorable attractions:

Island of Hawaii: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (the home of Mauna Loa), the waterfalls and orchids of Tropical Botanical Gardens, Rainbow Falls and its eighty-foot cascade and Kealakekua State where Captain James Cook first set foot on these islands.

Maui: Helical National Park, Ian Valley, Kula Botanical Garden, and Maui Ocean Center.

Oahu: Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Historic Trail, State Art Museum, Iowan Palace, Lanoka Beach, Polynesian Cultural Center, and the U.S. Army Museum.

Kauai:  Na Adina Kai Botanical Gardens, Waialua Falls, Fern Grotto, Kilauea Lighthouse, Hanalei Beach, Napoli Coast, and the Ileana Plantation.

Molokai: Haleiwa Valley, Modula Falls, Palau State Park and Kiowa Park

Lanai: Kanpur Preserve, Lanai City, Hoopoe Bay, and Shipwreck Beach.

Be Sure to Do…

Every island has a wide array of exciting things to do.  Hawaii is one of the best places on the planet to enjoy water-based activities like surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, deep sea fishing, swimming with dolphins, jet skiing, or viewing the pristine waters through a glass-bottomed boat.  You’ll also be able to enjoy mountainous hikes, horseback riding, touring historic sites like Pearl Harbor, and even wine tasting at places like the Tedeschi Vineyards and Winery.  Many vacationers rent bikes or ATVs to explore the island’s parks, preserves, and beaches.  Other great activities include whale watching, hula dancing, and rainforest exploration, touring by zip line, playing golf, and relaxing on the warm sands.  If you plan your itinerary carefully, you can do it all!

Don’t Forget to Eat!

Hawaii has great cuisine–traditional Polynesian dishes to contemporary Asian fusion meals. Experiencing a luau is an essential way not only to enjoy Hawaii’s people and traditional culture, but also to taste it delicious hospitality.  From fresh seafood to luscious fruit, you’ll want to savor the tastes of the islands as much as possible.  While you can eat aboard your cruise ship, always try to taste what the islands cook up for you, too!
