Athens Lotus Hotel, Athens, Greece

The front door was kept locked – day and night!

We stayed four nights at the Athens Lotus Hotel in Athens, Greece.
The hotel is very nice, recently renovated, contemporary in design, with pleasant staff.
Unfortunately the same can not be said about the area. The fact that they keep the front entrance door locked day and night tells you all you need to know about the area. Sadly there are criminals lurking on the nearby corners. We saw drug deals taking place every morning whilst we ate breakfast. Walking along the nearby streets wasn’t a pleasant experience, as it has a very unsafe edgy vibe.
It’s a real shame, because the hotel is a decent city hotel, located close to the metro which means you can easily visit the Acropolis and other sites.

Our room was nice, clean, and well equipped. There was a safe which was large enough for a laptop, and a fridge which we always like to have in a hotel room.
The air-conditioning worked well, when we opened the window it automatically switched off, never had that before in a hotel. We thought it was a good idea.

The bathroom was a decent size, the shower was roomy, the water was hot, but the water pressure was not particularly powerful. A bit more pressure would have been much appreciated.
The complimentary toiletries; bottles of shampoo, shower gel, and soap, of which there were two of each, were replaced for new ones every day.

Free WiFi was available in our room, but the connection was often frustratingly slow to non-existent.

Breakfast was not included in our room rate at the Athens Lotus Hotel in Athens. But we did eat breakfast there most mornings, paying 5€ each.
The price went up to 7€ during our stay, but not for guests who were already booked in. That seemed like a substantial increase.
Breakfast was a self service buffet, which was very good. It was the usual hotel food you’d expect, fruit, cereal, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, cold meat, cheese, bread, cakes, yogurt, honey, jam etc. Jugs of orange juice, milk etc. we’re kept topped up, and there was a coffee machine which made surprisingly drinkable coffee.
We thought the breakfast was good value at 5€ each, and not bad at 7€, it just seemed an excessive overnight increase to us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Athens Lotus Hotel in Athens, Greece. But we wouldn’t stay there again, as the area wasn’t to our liking.
