2012 May Travel: Legazpi, Albay

We had a day tour in Legazpi, Albay before heading to Donsol, Sorsogon. It was about an 8-hour land travel from Manila to Albay. Well, Manila traffic is one of the culprits.

Cagsawa Ruins

We just passed by the place so we didn’t have all the time to stroll around. The famous tourist spots were on top of the list since we’re not sure if we can pass by when we go back to Manila.

We had the chance to visit the following places:

1. Cagsawa Ruins

It was famous because it is said to be the testament of Mt. Mayon’s eruption in 1814. The ruins are from Cagsawa Church which is situated near the volcano.

2. Lignon Hills Nature Park

It is a 156-meter high hill that is famous in Legazpi. It offers adventures such as Zip line, hiking, biking, rappelling, paintball and much more. The park offers a 360 degrees view of the city. We were dead tired so we just checked out their view deck and didn’t tried their zip line.

3. Embarcadero de Legazpi

The place said to be the commercial and entertainment hub of the city. The first thing I noticed was the signage which is very similar to the signs in Sentosa, Singapore. It was a huge place with lots of shops but since we’re pressed with time, we just took some photos as a remembrance.

4. Daraga Church

Also known as “Nuestra Señora de la Porteria”. It is the crowning glory of religious architecture in the province of Albay. It was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum.

Daraga Church

The Church is made from volcanic rocks and lime coating was applied. I thought it’s “white paint” but it’s lime coats. These protective coats will protect the Church’s structure and hopefully will return to it’s original state.

There’s also a good view of Mt. Mayon beside the Church.

We maximized our time and was able to visit must-seen places in the province. We’re off to Donsol for some Whale Watching after the short yet productive day tour.
