Amsterdam is the capital of Netherlands, which is also known as Venice of the North because of the canals connecting each other in the downtown of Amsterdam. In my opinion, traveling in Amsterdam, Netherlands leaves more positive memories than traveling in Rome and Venice in Italy. First of all, I feel safer walking in the city at night even though some of the places aren’t as happening as those places in the downtown of Amsterdam. Besides that, the city is clean and well-maintained compared to the big cities in Italy. On top of everything, the locals or the Dutch people are more friendly and able to converse in English fluently.
A tour guide told me that, the level of education in Netherlands is one of the highest and recognizable in European region. The Dutch people learn a lot of languages in schools. Even though Dutch is the national language in Netherlands, they also learn and master other languages such as French, German and English as well.
Amsterdam was originally started as a small fishing village in the late 12th century and it slowly expanded into the most important trading centre in the world. Amsterdam was acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 for its beautiful canals and many historical buildings dating back to the 17th century are still situated along the canals. Amsterdam has been an attractive destination as you can laid back and relaxed enjoying the beautiful city with uniquely and creative architectural buildings while riding on the bicycle or taking a ride on a boat along the canals.
