Doors Of India, A Slideshow Across The Country (PHOTOS)

The doors of India hold a special fascination with me. I look at each door and wonder what history lies behind them. Sometimes as tourists we’re able to go behind the doors of India, in a bid to catch just a small snippet of what daily life must be like on the other side of the door. Other times it’s too late. Long forgotten weathered doors are chained shut holding thousands of stories under lock and key.

Who carved the wood? Who designed the doorway? Did all of these doors of India have a purpose or did they simply follow a pattern that was in vogue at the time.

The word tourist is just a kind term used to describe what we really are…gawkers. We come to India armed with cameras hoping to capture that iconic (or some might call it stereotypical) shot that reminds us of our trip. For me, each of these doors of India struck me in some way as unique. Each holds a memory of an individual or group associated around the time of the photo. Memories as vivid as the doors of India.
