Keoladeo National Park of Bharatpur Rajasthan

Keoladeo National Park (A.K.A. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary) lies outside of Bharatpur’s congested traffic snarls under the shade trees of Rajasthan’s natural growth. At just 29 square kilometers, Keoladeo National Park isn’t large by any means. It is however considered one of India’s best birdwatching sanctuaries and one of just 5 World Heritage Sites in India.

More than 118,000 people visited the park during the 2011-2012 season. Domestic tourists made up the bulk at 60,000, students accounted for roughly 34,000, and foreign tourists totaled approximately 24,000.

Best Time to Visit

Keoladeo National Park is best visited October through March, just after the monsoon as India’s northern region cools for winter. Migratory birds such as the Demoiselle Cranes can also be spotted at this time. Fog during December and January can inhibit the serious birdwatcher so plan accordingly.
