Mattoni Grand Prix Praha 2012 Night Run through Prague
After a very pleasant afternoon, early evening nap, we went out to watch the Mattoni Grand Prix.
By the time we’d walked down to the square the women’s race was over, but we got to see the men pounding the cobblestones of the old town. We even managed to catch a brief glimpse of the leaders, who went on to be first, second, and third place in the marathon. Not surprisingly they were from Kenya and Ethiopia.
There were lots of people milling about, cheering on the runners, and taking photographs. The atmosphere was vibrant, we had a good time.
After the professional athletes had finished the men’s race we wandered around the old town to view the remaining runners from different view points.
The professional runners were awarded their medals, the number one winner received a giant key, from the Volkswagen sponsor.
The professional runners were followed by lots of semi-professional runners, and as they began crossing the finish line the streets became full of sweaty runners, with smiling faces, no doubt pleased they’d made it to the end of the race. They were handed bananas which they eagerly munched in between receiving lots of hugs and kisses from their loved ones. Then all wrapped up in their sliver foil blankets they slowly began wandering away from the race site and off in to the night.
We really enjoyed seeing the Mattoni Grand Prix, the old city square was a great backdrop, which added a new element to how we saw the city of Prague.
