Bari, Italy
We arrived in Bari, Italy by ferry from Bar, Montenegro at 7am but could not disembark until 8am. It only took a couple of minutes to clear customs and immigration, and then we were in Bari. Hooray, we’d arrived in Italy!
We walked to our rental apartment on Via Roberto da Bari, via the scenic route, i.e. getting lost a couple of times.
Once we found our digs and freshened up, we headed out to explore the old town. But before the old town we got Wind. We popped in to the Wind mobile phone shop (cellphone) to purchase a new sim card for our iPhone. We bought one that includes unlimited data, 150 minutes of talk time, and 150 text messages. Happy days!
If we’d had the sim card when we got off the ferry we wouldn’t have got lost. We’d have used Apple Maps, oh wait a minute, Apple Maps doesn’t actually map anywhere. We’d have used Google Maps.

Eating in Bari, Italy ~
Fro Bo Restaurant ~
We ate a light lunch of spaghetti with clams for me, and a mushroom risotto for laura at Far Bo. Both dishes were 8€, and both dishes were very meagre portions, which was bad especially considering they were listed on the menu as main courses.
Drinking in Bari, Italy ~
Birra Theresianer ~ http://www.theresianer.com
My first beer in Italy, and a decent one to boot. It was a strong ale, with a deep malty richness.
Summary ~
It felt weird to be back in Western Europe again, but good too as we love Italy. We enjoyed our stay in Bari, but as we were only there for two days we didn’t explore much of it. Our explorations were severely cut short on our second day in Bari because of heavy rain. We got completely soaked, so had to return to our accommodation and stay there for the rest of our stay while our clothes and boots dried.
Bari is a pleasant town with friendly people who are typically well-dressed, as you’d expect from Italians.
Laura and I looked ever so slightly less well-dressed, especially when sporting our ‘drowned rat’ look. Oh well, you can’t travel constantly for a year and a half, with only hand luggage, and expect to still look presentable.
Moving on ~
Our next stop in Italy was to be Lecce, so we popped into the railway station in Bari to check train departure times. There was no need to queue at a ticket counter because there were ticket machines that had an English language option, and you could use them to check departure times and ticket prices without needing to buy a ticket.
There was not a lot in the station itself apart from a couple of vending machines. But if you exit the station and bear left, there is a large cafe.
Random Musings ~
Richard: I had something, but as it’s taken me longer to publish this than originally planned, it seems a tad in appropriate now.
For once I’ve got nothing to say.
