Guest Post-Cycling in Florida

These days, keeping fit whilst on holiday is a bigger priority than ever. A far cry from the days of eating chocolate Mickey bars all day and not moving a muscle, today’s tourists want to experience all of the same attractions, but in different ways. Getting around by bike is the perfect way to take in all the sights, sounds and smells of somewhere new.

Here you can find a list of the best biking adventures in Miami and Orlando, regardless of your level of experience.

There are plenty of places to rent bikes in both Miami and Orlando, and if you pack a little picnic you can really make the most of the excursion.

Miami

-Amelia Earhart Park

This park is situated on a lake, with eight miles of unpaved trails for all levels of experience. Definitely better suited to mountain bikes, there’s also a small farm, soccer fields, and a dog park to explore.

-Oleta River State Park

For a small entry fee you’ll find yourself in a cyclist’s playground, with over eight miles of off-road mountain bike trails, and plenty of paved paths as well. There are picnic tables, BBQ areas and the option to rent kayaks to explore the river as well.

-Shark Valley

Probably the closest you’ll get to the Everglades by bike, you can cycle for 15 miles on paved roads. Halfway in, you’ll find an observation tower which offers a fantastic view of the Everglades. It’s definitely worth packing a large picnic as you’ll be cycling for a few good hours, which is a whole new way to enjoy your Florida holidays 2013.

Orlando

-Lake Eola Heights

Lake Eola is a beautiful historic district with stunning views and a lake where you can rent swan boats. There is a track around the park, approximately a mile in length, making it perfect for a family ride. Lake Lawsona is equally beautiful, with a track coming in at just under three miles.

-Little Econ Greenway Bike Trail

Coming in at just under eight miles, this bike trail runs alongside a scenic river popular with canoeists, while many people picnic along its banks. There are several restrooms along the way, and you’ll find yourself in good company with plenty of other cyclists around.

-West Orange Trail

There aren’t many rides as beautiful and long as this around Orlando, but the West Orange Trail starts at Killarney Station and runs for 22 miles, running through verdant hills and past several farms. The town of Winter Garden lies about 17 miles in, and is the only place to really top for refreshments, so be sure to pack a small picnic for the rest of the ride.

Whether you choose to spend your holidays next year in Orlando or in vibrant Miami, you’ll be sure to return home with a great tan and fitter than ever! Or you could get the best of both worlds, and book one of several excellent twin centre holidays to allow a visit to both Miami and Orlando!
