Hostel Hyatt, at Hotel Hyatt, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovinia
We booked four nights at Hotel Hyatt in Sarajevo via Booking.com. We opted for a budget room in the adjoining Hostel Hyatt, which is all part of the same business.
To get to our room at Hostel Hyatt we had to walk through the Hotel Hyatt reception, up one flight of stairs, and then out through a courtyard in to another building, then up one flight of very steep rickety stairs.
Our room was right by the top of the stairs. It was very small. There were two single beds pushed up against one wall. Both beds were uncomfortable, lumpy and hard.
At the foot of one of the beds was a large TV stand on top of which was an old TV.
The TV only had a couple of channels tuned in, all of which were so fuzzy they were unwatchable. Because of the TV unit it was impossible to get in and out of the bed nearest to the wall without climbing across the other bed.
Also in our tiny room was a small wardrobe, with only one clothes hanger, and one bedside unit.
The bathroom was compact. The shower didn’t have a screen or curtain, so using it meant the whole room got soaked.
The basin plumbing was leaking, so the floor of the bathroom was constantly wet.
The towels were very old, damp, smelly, worn, and rough – like sandpaper.
There was no hot water, it was tepid at best.
There was free WiFi available throughout the hotel, or at least that’s what we were told. Unfortunately the WiFi was rarely working, and when it was it never worked in our room. The lobby was the only place we managed to use the Internet, but it was very slow and patchy. It took hours to do the simplest task.
Our pokey room at Hostel Hyatt in Sarajevo was very basic, and unpleasant.
We stayed there in October, the weather was cold, our room was very cold. It was colder in our room than it was outside. There was no heating turned on in our room, and the ceramic floor tiles and ill fitting door did little to help keep the cold out.
During out stay there were a group of teenagers on a school trip staying. There were about 25 of them plus a few teachers. They were incredibly noisy, which we didn’t mind that much as it’s nice to hear people enjoying themselves. They were staying in the hotel not the hostel rooms, so when we were in our room, they didn’t disturb us too much.
The building where our hostel room was, was very noisy. The main noise was from the inconsiderate, selfish guests in the neighbours rooms. They would stand outside our room on the landing shouting to each other, slam their room doors, and generally make a lot of noise, well in to the early hours, and then again in the morning.
Obviously having doors that didn’t fit properly, with large gaps underneath and round the edges, meant the sound carried more.
The staff were quite noisy too, there was a washing machine on the ground floor of the building we were staying in which was loud.
I can’t think of anything positive to say about Hostel Hyatt, at Hyatt Hotel in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was overpriced, and offered none of the things listed online.
It wasn’t just us who were unhappy with our stay, we overheard several guests complaining including guests staying in the hotel, and the hostel rooms.
Update ~ On our last day at Hostel Hyatt the heating was turned on for a couple of hours. The radiator in our room got fairly warm which took the chill off, and meant we could have hot showers.
We didn’t enjoy our stay at Hostel Hyatt, at Hyatt Hotel in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I don’t think we’ve ever been happier to check-out of a hotel.
