What to do in the Bahamas when Cruising in the Caribbean

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Opening the new year with us Karolina Shenton with another Caribbean article. After Barbados the next stop of this Caribbean cruise will take us to the fabulous Bahamas. Once again Karolina, can’t wait to go there ;)

The Bahamas is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean because it is close to Florida and has the beautiful weather and the laid-back island attitude of the Caribbean. Here is a list of fun things to experience on a cruise to the Bahamas.

Taste Conch Fritters – This is the unofficial dish of the Bahamas. The sweet meat comes from the pretty pink Conch shells found in the water off the shores of the island. The meat is fried into delicious bites of chewy goodness. It’s definitely a treat you must try.

Atlanis Resorts and Casino – Located on Paradise Island this major resort draws visitors from all over the world. Take a water taxi over to the island where you can walk through the shops and the casino. To see the entire grounds of the resort, which include private beaches, waterslides and an aquarium you can purchase passes in the hotel lobby.

Bay Street – Take a stroll down Bay Street, which is just a short distance from the main cruise port in Nassau. Here you will see lots of enticing stores selling diamonds, clothes and more. Visit the Straw Market for trinkets and gifts handmade by Bahamians.

Queen’s Staircase – Visit a limestone staircase carved by slaves in 1793. It was named the Queen’s Staircase to honor Queen Victoria for helping to abolish slavery in the Bahamas. The staircase is 102 feet with 65 steps and leads to Fort Fincastle.

Swim, Snorkel or Dive – Give yourself an opportunity to splash around in the beautiful and warm waters that surround all the islands of the Bahamas. The water is so clear you can see your feet and all the bright fish swimming around them.

Again a big thanks to Karolina Shenton for sharing this article and photos!
