Vacation: Mementos & Reminders

No matter how great a time you have on a vacation or holiday, you are often glad to return home. Except for true travel professionals, the comings and goings and scheduling of travel can get a bit wearing after a week or so.

At the same time, it would be nice to have a few reminders around of your vacation. For me one particular year it was as simple as a brand of soap I used while on a vacation at the beach. The fragrance of this soap (check out the Australian Naturals product line on Facebook – Ocean Beach is my personal favorite!) got me at least mentally through a cold winter following that warm summer beach-side vacation.

Depending on which of your senses take priority, sounds of your vacation make take precedence over smells.

Trickling water always reminds me of the open lobby of the hotel on Oahu where I spent my first Hawaiian vacation – 37 years ago! No one can accuse me of not paying attention. There was a huge fountain right in the middle of the lobby so as soon as you exited the elevator you heard the water splashing in the fountain and got a Waikiki ocean breeze coming through that hotel lobby.

While I can’t afford a fountain in my home’s “lobby” or foyer, I can sure ponder adding that trickling water sound to my home environment.
