Capture the Colour 2013 #ctc13

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

You remember last year where there was this rather splendid photography contest judged by real photographers, with some jolly nice prizes?

Well, it’s back. With the same judges, and even better prizes.

The Travelsupermarket Capture the Colour competition is open to all bloggers, and last year there were over 3,000 images entered. Including five of mine. None of which won anything. But such minor setbacks are not enough to deter me from bouncing up and having another go!

The good news is that, as a reader, you don’t need to do anything. This isn’t a popularity contest judged by the number of likes or tweets this post gets. All you have to do is peer at the photos below. Ok, so you don’t even have to do that. You can just stare out the window for a while if you like. Whatever works.

If you do happen to have a blog, you are welcome to enter yourself. Just check out the rules in the link above, which are remarkably simple, pick a photo for each colour, and get creating! Good luck :)

In the meantime, here are my entries. I hope you like them!

Blue

I had the pleasure of taking part in a proper yacht race whilst visiting the Italian region of Brindisi this year, and naturally spent a great deal of time taking pictures of the adventure. We had perfect weather, and the sea / sky obliged with their general blueness, so this seemed like a good choice for blue!

Red

In a small town in rural France I happened upon this annual celebration of all things Occitan, which involved decorating the whole town with these gorgeously colourful flowers. There were in fact enough different colours to cover the whole of this competition, but I’m just going with this one, for red.

White

I was rather thrilled to be able to spend three months travelling around Thailand over the European Winter of 2012, and I’ve shared a lot of stories from that trip on this blog already. We stumbled across this amazing multi-handed statue in what appeared to be some sort of park that was under construction. Or closed. Or being renovated. Whichever, no-one seemed to mind us wandering around and taking photos!

Green

Another one from Thailand, this one of a giant Monkey Puzzle tree near the town of Kanchanburi. Mostly famous for being home to the bridge over the River Kwai, Kanchanburi has a lot to offer beyond the war memorials, including cave temples, floating nuns and huge waterfalls. And of course, this giant tree, which seemed a natural fit for the colour green.

Yellow

And the last picture in the series, this one being yellow. A sunset seemed like a good choice, and I particularly liked the way that this reclining Buddha in the Thai city of Ayutthaya seemed to be watching the sunset with me, wrapped in a cloak of yellow.

Finally, it falls upon me to nominate five bloggers who I think should take part this year. I’d love to see entries from:

Good luck to all!
