.mom is a weekend to encourage and refresh women through the highs and lows of motherhood. This is a time to connect with others moms and discover how the struggles and sacrifice of being a mom brings you closer to Christ.

Whether you are a past, present, or future mom, this event is an opportunity for you to be ministered to and minister to others.

The event features keynote sessions are taught by prominent Bible teachers and moms.  Past presenters include Vicki Courtney, Priscilla Shirer, Angie Smith, John Croyle, and Travis Cottrell (worship).

Several breakout sessions will cover hot topics to help guide moms through every day battles with an eternal perspective.

what to expect at .mom

Lifeway held its’ first ever .mom event in Birmingham, Alabama in September 2011.  This event featured Praise and Worship from Melissa Green best known from her experience with the group Avalon as well as breakout sessions featuring a broad range of topics and speakers.

The event is a Friday morning to Saturday late afternoon event.  The event began on Friday morning with break out speakers on topics that included Dealing with Children who have Cancer.  The afternoon kicked off with Lifeway bloggers Melanie, Bigmama, and Sophie, Boomama, as MC’s for the event with hilarious comedy and intro’s for the platform speakers.

The platform speakers were so much fun and very informative.  They included Angela Thomas, Priscilla Shirer, Angie Smith, and Vicki Courtney.

The best thing about the event was the more intimate atmosphere during the smaller breakout sessions.  The topics for the sessions included subjects for Moms with sons, Moms of daughters, Dealing with the loss of a child, The Working Mom, Infertility/Adoption, Raising Godly Kids, Single Moms, Home School Moms, Teaching your children how to be Mission Minded, how to cope when your child has been diagnosed learning disability such as ADD or Autism, and more.

One of the breakout sessions I attended included a man named David Thomas.  I had never heard of him before but he was speaking on Wild Things, the art of nurturing boys and I have two boys so I definitely wanted to attend.

I arrived straight from another session and the room was PACKED.  I don’t mean that just EVERY seat was taken I mean people were standing against the wall, sitting in the aisle, pressed in every nook and cranny of the room.  It did not take long for me to realize why they were all there, this guy was GOOD!  He not only told us how boys think and why they think that way via interesting stories, video and pictures.  He was riveting.  He was only allotted an hour but I think almost all of us could have listened to him for MANY HOURS!!!  Interestingly enough he will be the platform speaker at the 2012 .mom event.  I am going to attend just to hear him again.

Some of the breakout sessions deal with sensitive issues that allow the participants to really share and love on one another in a safe, private, and comforting atmosphere.

If you are a mom, have a mom, or know a mom they really need to attend.  I returned from the event refreshed, renewed, and ready to be a BETTER mom!
