If you’re looking for a different kind of travel experience, Serbia is a great place to check out. Belgrade, Serbia’s capital city, is an affordable vacation spot full of interesting historic sites and fun events to interest any traveler. It’s also a great way to get to try authentic and delicious Serbian food; if you’ve never experienced it, then it’s time that you did! If you’re unfamiliar with the area, you might want some ideas for where to stay, where to eat, and what to see and do while you’re there. Here are some of the highlights of the city of Belgrade that you’ll definitely want to consider.

  • Where to Stay  Most of the hostels and hotels in Belgrade are located in the center of the city. There are accommodations available for every price range. If you’re backpacking or on a tight budget, try the Backpackers’ Lounge Hostel, where you’ll find English-speaking staff members, free wifi, and safe and comfortable rooms. For a mid-range hotel stay, you can try the Belgrade Art Hotel, which is modern and comfortable and has the advantage of being located near popular attractions. For an extravagant stay, the number one hotel in the area is the Hotel 27 Townhouse. This hotel is known for luxurious amenities and excellent staff. Rent a suite and order room service, or spend some time in the fitness center before stopping in the hotel’s restaurant for a bite to eat.

  • Where to Eat  Belgrade has restaurants that offer international cuisine, so you can find whatever type of food you like there. However, you’re missing out if you don’t eat in one of the restaurants offering Serbian food. For a really good meal, try the Panta Rei, where you can begin with an appetizer of Pazinske njoke, or gnocchi and mushroom truffles in sauce. Follow that up with a traditional Serbian veal dish with potatoes, and finish it off with a big slice of chocolate cake.

  • What to Do  If you’re going to be in Belgrade in January, you will definitely want to check out the International Folk Dance Festival that will be taking place between January 3 and January 6 this year. In addition to Serbian dancers, you’ll be able to watch dancers from countries like Turkey, Spain, France,Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece and more. If you’re looking for something free to do in Belgrade, visit the Kalemegdan Fortress, otherwise known as the Belgrade Fortress. This fascinating piece of history dates back to the year 535, and it is a protected historical site. If you’re interested in shopping while you’re there, the place to look for bargains is along Knez Mihailova. This well stocked shopping street also offers the chance to check out some beautiful local architecture.

You’ve probably never visited a city quite like Belgrade. The unique city is a fascinating place to explore, and it’s definitely well worth taking the time to check it out.
