Carnival Cruise Line Rebrands Children’s Program

Carnival recently rebranded its children’s program. With more than 700,000 children sailing on its ships annually Carnival felt the move was needed to accommodate even their smallest of guests. This new program is called Camp Ocean and will be unveiled this month on the Carnival Freedom.

Features
Camp Ocean will be replacing Camp Carnival. It features around 200 activities for kids that are marine related. Each activity is developed around 11 categories including social and food fun, party time, role play, science and discovery, music, digital, arts and crafts, active play, free play and games. The hope is that by providing children with a variety of activities that there will be so many things for each child to do and it will allow them to have a fun experience. These activities feature things like creating their own aquarium or making a penguin out of cookies. Camp Ocean is free, but there may be a small charge for creating certain arts and craft items.

Age Range
The camp will be divided up into 3 groups: children ages 2-5 will be the Penguin group, those that are 6-8 will be the Stingray group and children ages 9-11 will be the shark group. Each group will have a designated play area where they will do age appropriate activities. Once they complete a task, they will get a Camp Ocean badge. Each age group will have activities catered to their age range.  For example the 2 to 5 year olds will also enjoy onboard character parades, interactive story time, arts and crafts more.

Other Changes
Carnival is also redesigning their main dining room. They will be having live concerts and character dining that include characters from Dr. Seuss books. These changes are designed specifically for families with children in mind.

Availability
Camp Ocean is only currently available on the Carnival Freedom. However, the Carnival Vista, which is expected to set sail in 2016, will have a play area called the Party Reef for guests between the ages of 2-11 and a room for arts and crafts called the Creative Cove. The Carnival Freedom will also have these features. The Carnival Triumph, Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze will also be offering Camp Ocean towards the end of 2015.

One of the unique things about this children’s program is all the work it took to develop it. Child development experts and a mom that cruised on Carnival ships often were all part of the design process. Carnival is one of the most well-known cruise ships in the industry. All of these changes are expected to draw in even more travelers despite them having a rocky year with a cruise fire and a large amount of passengers getting sick while on board the ship.
