Fiji on the Fast Track

Nadi is Fiji’s international gateway, located on Viti Levu, the largest of Fiji’s 300 islands.  Within the magnificent cluster of islands we’ve pinpointed some of the best spots for active outings to ensure you experience Fiji’s finest.

Head to Calm Waters

The nearby (where Tom Hanks’ character in Cast Away was famously marooned) is a chain of small, one-resort islands where the sheltered waters make sea kayaking and snorkeling enjoyable.  As a reward for your efforts, spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the idyllic uninhabited island, Vomo Lailai.

Dive Down the Rabbit Hole

As the Soft Coral Capital of the World, Fiji offers some of the most prolific underwater formations.  Grab an air tank and fins and drift along dive sites like Alice in Wonderland where rainbow colored corals decorate surreal mushroom-shaped reefs.

Shake It Up

Visits to traditional villages like Nukubalavu offer an ultimate look into the islands’ rich cultural heritage and Fiji’s friendly spirit.  Take part in a short sevusevu (gift ceremony) then explore the village and enjoy a meke (traditional dance.)

Burn Some Energy

Located centrally within the Cook Islands, the main island of Rarotona, commonly called “Raro,” serves as an ideal starting point for a number of adventures.  Its lush landscape punctuated by shark-finned peaks and surrounding turquoise lagoons create dynamic settings for sporting options on land and at sea.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

No roads penetrate Raro’s interior highlands, but the spectacular cross-island trek provides a four-hour hike past volcanic peaks and through fern forests.  Then, just past Muri Beach, refresh with a dip at Wigmore’s Waterfall, also known as Papua Waterfall – free from signposts and reachable only by foot or 4×4 this clandestine location proves most impressive after a heavy rain.

Get Some Clarity

Raro is known for the crystal-clear waters of Muri Lagoon.  Not surprisingly, the island’s best snorkeling can be found here along the ra’ui (locally protected reefs).  For those that prefer to go even deeper, we recommend venturing out to the lagoon edge where scuba divers can explore Sunset Reef Caves – a series of caverns and stunning swim-throughs filled with colorful marine life.

Put Some Wind in Your Sails

Light breezes and flat waters make the 12 mile lagoon at Aitutaki Island ideal for windsurfers and kiteboarders – two sails an longer, rounder boards work best.  Paddleboarders should explore the small offshore islets ringing the island.
