It’s that time again- kids are about to go back to school soon. Whether you want to squeeze in one last trip this summer or you plan on getting some alone time once the kids are back to school, now is the time to book that last minute trip or plan ahead for next summer to lock in early booking rates.  Here are some of the options for places to go in August.

Tropical Destinations

There really is never a bad time of year to visit a tropical destination. During the month of August Mexico, the Bahamas and the Caribbean tend to be hot spots for tourists. If you are wanting to get a quick vacation in why not plan a cruise to one of these destinations? You can easily fit a 3 or 4 day cruise into your schedule and there are usually some great last minute cruise deals. One of the big benefits of a cruise is that you don’t really have to do much planning. All of your accommodations, meals and activities are conveniently located on the ship.

National Parks

Get the kids ready for school by doing a little bit of learning as a family beforehand. The month of August is a good time to see some of the local wildlife and take a hike. Places like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park are great places to spend a little bit of bonding time with your kids while your learn to fish, go on a hike and do some chatting around a campfire.

Theme Parks

Sure theme parks are usually very busy during the summer months, but most people don’t mind the large crowds, long lines and hot weather in order to ride their favorite rides with their little ones. One of the more popular rides this summer is Harry Potter And The Escape From Gringotts ride at Universal Orlando. The wait is very long as of recently so if you plan on riding this ride make sure you plan accordingly.

Alaska

The weather in Alaska during August ranges from about 61 to 73 degrees which makes it a rather pleasant time to visit the area. Many visitors flock to Alaska during the month of August to see the bears gather along the shoreline to eat the spawning salmon. It definitely is quite the site! In addition to the bears there’s a lot of other wildlife like sea otters, puffins, whales and bald eagles.

For the best rates on flights, choose an a Alaska cruise that sails round trip from Seattle.

Planning ahead for next year? Consider Africa

During the month of August one of the greatest spectacles in the world takes place, the zebra and the wildebeest migrate in Kenya. This is one of the few opportunities that you can see an abundance of gazelles, cheetahs, rhinos and giraffes at one time. If you are skeptical about going to Africa because you don’t want to rough it, you will be pleased to know that there are actually a lot of very nice accommodations to stay at in Kenya including luxury campgrounds and lodges.

Don’t put off that August vacation that you are dreaming of. Now is the time to take a much deserved trip to recharge your batteries before the often busy fall and winter seasons begin.
