Areas that receive large snowfalls and below freezing temperatures may not seem like your dream place to travel too. Toyama, Japan
This city is located in the north of Japan along the coast. Each year they receive about 143 inches of snow or about 12 feet. They get so much of it in fact that in certain places, such as the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, commuters drive down a highway that actually cuts through a giant wall of snow.

Chamonix, France
This is perhaps the snowiest place in France. Each year this town receives over 31 feet of snow. Chamonix was the home to the first winter Olympics in 1924. It’s not surprising that popular activities include skiing and snowboarding.

Rochester, New York
If you’ve ever been to Rochester during the month of December, you know that it’s cold. The 260,000 thousand residents of this city have to endure close to 100 inches of snow each year. Talk about a tough daily commute in the winter!

The Alps, Europe
The Alps are known to be cold. All throughout Europe they receive quite a bit of snowfall each year. In Switzerland, the region known as Santis, had a snowfall of about 27 feet. It’s not uncommon for some areas to receive over 50 inches of snow in less than a day.

Eastern Himalayas, Nepal
This may be the snowiest place in the entire world. The Eastern Himalayas in Nepal consists of some of the world’s tallest mountains. Some parts of this area have received over 40 feet of snow in a month. On most days, snowfall consists of about 12 inches every 24 hours.
