The Future Of Planes

With about 8 million people flying every single day, it’s important to have not only safe planes, but ones that provide an enjoyable travel experience. Many developers are trying to make not only faster planes that go from one destination to another in record breaking times, but are trying to raise the bar quite a bit by developing planes and amenities that most of us have only ever dreamed of. Flying is only getting better thanks to these innovations.

Virtual Reality Helmets
In the future, headphones that don’t work and staticky in-flight movies might be a thing of the past. Airbus hopes to add virtual reality helmets to some airplanes. These helmets would allow passengers to engage themselves in a virtual reality world where they could get totally immersed in a movie or video game. One of the huge benefits of these helmets is that passengers could forget about the noise and movement of other passengers which could in turn make their flight much more enjoyable.

Electric Planes
Noisy, vibrating planes may be something you never have to endure again if developers have their way. Electric planes will offer a smooth flying experience and plane tickets will be a lot cheaper for passengers. It’s estimated that it will cost only about $5 an hour to operate as opposed to the over $70 an hour it costs to operate many planes. This could equal big savings for passengers. These electric planes will be fueled mostly by solar power.

Smart Windows
Airbus has also filed a patent for Smart Windows. These windows would have a touchscreen and passengers would be able to look up information about their destination or watch a movie if they want to. This would be great for those passengers that have a fear of heights and don’t want to look out of the window and need a distraction.

Windowless Planes
If you want to feel like you are really flying, then these planes are just for you. Windowless planes will offer passengers with a unique experience. The plane would have cameras that were mounted on the outside with that information being shown on video displays on the walls. Hence, the plane would look like it was basically one big window.

Many of these new plane designs and amenities we won’t see for at least several years because of patenting, developing and testing. However, once they do become a reality it really could change the way we fly.
