Cruise directors are what makes the ship run efficiently. No, we’re not talking about the actually steering of the ship. More like the go to person on the ship. They keep guests informed and entertained at various points of the cruise. This may sound like a dream job, but it’s rather hard. A cruise director has to always be happy. Even if something negative is going on behind the scenes, he/she has to keep a smile on their face and have an upbeat attitude.

Take Criticism In Stride

No matter what you do for a living, there will always be critics. This is especially true for cruise directors since there are usually at least 1,000 passengers on each cruise ship. This means a 1,000 people to judge their every move and find fault in what they are doing. Cruise directors have to expect criticism and not show that it has an effect on them, no matter how bad it is. Despite all this, there are generally some really nice people that cruise directors meet and they generally make the job worth it.

It Can Be Hard

Living on a cruise ship most of the year can be difficult. The days generally go by very fast and what’s going on in the outside world tends to become nonexistent. Despite this, there are some perks like food being cooked on demand for you and never having to change your own bedsheets.

You Have To Be A People Person

Cruise directors have to connect with their passengers from day one. This can be hard considering the fact that there are so many of them. It takes a special talent to be able to walk on a stage or in a crowded room and have a calm voice or entertaining joke when the need arises and feel totally at ease in any situation. At times, people will make some strange requests or expect you to take care of their every demand. Cruise directors always have to be on point and be able to relate to that high needs traveler at the drop of a hat.

Being a cruise director may seem hard, but there are definitely a lot of perks. One of the big parts of the job is entertaining people. Besides being a comedian, what job could you work at where you are required to make people laugh all the time? The room and board also isn’t bad either. Many cruise directors get paid very well and they have a pretty swanky cabin complete with a private bedroom and bathroom and sitting area. So with traveling the world for free, getting paid well and having all your basic needs taken care of, does being a cruise director sound like the job for you?
