Ravenna

This city is only about a 2 hour trip from Venice. Once in the city it is easy to get around as many parts of it are easily walkable. The indoor market called Mercato Coperto is particular popular among tourists with a variety of things to look at and buy. One of the main reasons why people flock to Ravenna is for the churches. Verona

The city of Verona is about 71 miles from Venice and can be reached by car or train. Shakespeare fans flock to this city as the The Taming of the Shrew, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Romeo are all set here. The third largest amphitheater in the world, the Arena, is also located here. It’s still functional, despite the fact that the outside is crumbling. The Ponte Scaligero bridge and San Zeno Maggiore Church are also popular tourists attractions.

Dolomites

This is a popular spot for those that like to hike or want to enjoy a high up view of the area. It’s about 100 miles from Venice and one of Europe’s most popular alpine areas. It has red-hued pinnacles and travelers from near and far flock to it during the winter months for its spectacular winter sports.

The Lagoon Islands: Murano, Burano & Torcello

The Lagoon Islands consist of Murano, Burano and Torcello. They are a little over 6 miles from Venice and consist of amazing scenery. Each one of these islands offers a different experience for travelers. Torcello is known for its churches, especially the Cathedral of Santa Maria Asunta Vaporettos that links Venice and the Lagoon Islands Together. Burano is known for its lace making and vibrant houses while Murano is known for its shops and glassmaking.
