All Animal Airport Terminal Set To Open in 2016
Many airports are trying to cater to travelers by offering them a whole host of amenities. New York’s JFK airport is taking it one step further by offering amenities for Fido and his animal friends. In 2016 they will be opening a 178,000 square foot terminal called The Ark that is not for humans.
Animal Of All Kinds
There will be many different amenities to keep animals of all kinds feeling at ease while traveling. For dogs, there will be a paw-shaped swimming pool and a doggy play area for them to get out some of that pent up energy. For cats, they will be able to frolic in a jungle that is made of live trees. This terminal won’t just cater to the standard household pets like cats and dogs either. There will be a private space where penguins can mate as well as stables for horses and cows that will have climate controlled stalls to keep them comfortable at all times. Animals will also be able to enjoy other amenities like flat-screen TV’s, massages, showers and pampering at the Paradise 4 Paws spa. There will also be an area to quarantine animals that are sick and a veterinary hospital for those that need medical care.
The Idea Behind It
Each year about 70,000 animals make their way through JFK airport. Most of these animals do include cats and dogs, but in the past there have been some unique animals including aardvarks and sloths. The name The Ark, was inspired by the biblical story in the bible about Noah and his famous ark and it is meant to cater to all creatures, big and small.
This new terminal is expected to cost a whopping $48 million dollars, but is considered to be very much needed. It’s supposed to provide a more humane way to treat animals rather than them being cooped up in a cage at the airport while traveling. Planes will even be able to taxi to the terminal directly in order to unload the animals without them have to go through the actual airport. Depending on what you plan on utilizing at The Ark, it may come with a price. For example, a dog suit at Paradise 4 Pets is expected to cost about $50 per day for a standard suite and $100 per day for the deluxe suite that comes with a “human sized” bed and a family portrait. Despite the cost, many pet lovers will be more than willing to pay to use these services at this terminal if it means that their beloved pets and animal travel companions are comfortable.
