General cargo ship abandoned in Cyprus and crew starving

The general cargo ship Orsa was abandoned by crew and shipowner in the pier of Famagusta, Northern Cyprus since March 2015. The ship register in unclear, as now the documents show that operate under flag of Togo, but earlier was registered in Turkey and Cook Islands. The crew of the general cargo vessel Orsa abandoined the vessel together with owner and only 4 people left to keep it afloat. The ship owes a lot of money to the port authorities and left crew members are starving without provisions on board. Owner doesn’t respond to calls and even official requests.

According to the information from Maritime News Journal, the ship was abandoned from the owner after bankruptcy. The company operator closed its office and unable to pay the costs for the vessel. The vessel is detained from operations and expected the master and other crew members are not allowed to leave it.

Cargo ship Orsa (IMO: 7628655) has summer deadweight of 2965 DWT and gross tonnage of 1596 GRT. The vessel was built in 1980 by Anadolu International Trade & Shipping yard and operated by the Turkish owner Klas Mar Denizcilik.
