See Buckingham Palace – Now Open To The Public “A Royal Welcome”
Each year the Queen opens up Buckingham Palaces to visitors. It’s one of only a couple of working royal palaces in the world. One of the highlights of the visit is the special exhibition, which changes each summer. This year it is called A Royal Welcome and it focuses on the splendor of being able to visit the Queen’s residence. Buckingham Palace is a magical place and in addition to the special exhibition, there’s a lot to see throughout.
- The Rooms
There are 775 rooms in total at Buckingham Palace. These include 78 bathrooms and 19 state rooms. Many of these rooms are quite unique with marble columns, candelabras and various artwork scattered about. Visitors won’t get to visit all of the rooms, but the ones that they do get to visit they will find breathtaking.
- The Grand Staircase
For many, the grand staircases is the highlight of their visit. This is because it’s made of bronze and has a lot of intricate details. There’s laurel, acanthus and laurel leaves in patterns and a glass dome hanging from the ceiling that illuminates it all.
- The Thrown Room
This room is quite majestic. It has a variety of thrones that were used in ceremonies like The Queen’s Jubilee. Many people will recognize it right away as some of the royals have had their now famous wedding photos taken in it, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
- The Flags, Clocks and Watches
There are over 350 different watches and clocks throughout the palace. Buckingham Palace is actually home to one of the world’s largest collections of working clocks. There are two people employed full time just to keep up with the maintenance of all of the clocks and watches. The flags are also another must see if you are at Buckingham Palace. When the Queen is there the Royal Standard is flown. When she’s out it is replaced with the Union Flag.
- The Garden Shop and Garden Café
After you have toured Buckingham palace you will have the opportunity to visit the Garden Café on the West Terrace. It’s a great place to enjoy some tea and a pastry. After all, not many people can say that they got to enjoy a light lunch at Buckingham Palace. Afterwards, the Garden Shop is where most people visit to get a souvenir. Many of the things offered in the Garden Shop cannot be found at other souvenirs places in the area.
- Tickets
Adult Tickets cost $31.99 ( £20.50). Tickets for children ages 5-17 are $18.41 (£11.80). Children under 5 years old are free.
