A hotel room with plush bedding and great room service may seem like a dream to some. For others, they are looking for more of a thrill or a challenge of sorts. Survival vacations teach travelers how to endure difficult situations and at times face isolation. There are several different types of survival vacations that travelers can choose from.

Wilderness Vacations

These types of survival vacations entail being dropped off in the middle of nowhere with only backpack with a few items. Participants have to look for food, make a fire without a lighter and construct a safe place to sleep (there aren’t tents included in those backpacks!). They have to pull out every bit of primitive skills that they have in them in order to make it through the night. Mountain Vacations

These types of survival vacations are similar to wilderness vacations, but with a complete change of scenery. Participants are dropped off in the mountains with little more than a knife and will be on their own to survive for the next several days. The location can be brutal with very hot days and freezing cold night. Cellphones and laptops are not allowed, but there are guides nearby so if you find yourself in a bit of trouble, you can be rescued- after all other measures have been taken of course. Island Vacations

This type of vacation is best for those that want to learn how to survive on their own, but aren’t ready for treacherous forests or desolate mountains. The big difference between the other two types of vacations is that there is absolutely no hope of finding anyone else around. Island survival vacations are the perfect type of vacation to take part in with friends and family members. One of the more popular places where this type of vacation can be found is on Amparo Island.

Survival vacations range from one night to several weeks at a time. While they may seem scary, if you find yourself in a dire situation, there are guides available most of the time to help you out.
