Tiny houses are just what they sound like- houses that are very small. To be classified as a tiny house it usually has to measure smaller than 400 square feet. While this may sound small, it’s actually bigger than many hotel rooms. Now, before you jump on the tiny house bandwagon and rent one for you next vacation, this is what you need to know about them.

Benefits

Tiny houses have many of the luxurious that you would find in a larger home. They generally consist of a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Tiny homes tend to appeal to three types of travelers.

People Wanting The Comforts Of Home: This can be a great alternative for singles, couples or small families that want to have many of the luxuries of home while traveling without having to pay top dollar to rent an average size house.

Those Wanting To Save A Buck: Another kind of traveler this appeals to is the one that doesn’t plan on being at their chosen accommodation type very much and they want an inexpensive option. Tiny homes can often go for a lot less a night than even a small hotel room.

The Minimalist: Tiny homes appeal to many minimalists or those that want to leave as small as a carbon footprint as possible. These small homes are economical and equate to very simply living (or vacationing!).

The Drawbacks

Renting a tiny home certainly isn’t for everyone. There are some drawbacks to these types of rentals.

Size: One of the obvious drawbacks of tiny house rentals is the size. Even though they tend to be larger than other accommodation types, since there are so many rooms crammed into such a small space, it can actually seem a lot smaller.

Location: Tiny houses aren’t usually located in larger cities. Because of zoning in a lot counties, you will probably have to drive outside of a city in a more rural area. This can be a huge drawback for many travelers.

Amenities: While tiny houses do tend to have all the comforts of home, it can take some getting used to the amenities that it does have. For instance, ovens aren’t always the size of standard ovens so it can be difficult to cook a meal, more than one course at a time. Tiny homes don’t usually have bathtubs so if you want to take a shower you are out of luck. Because of the small space you might not find items like toasters and coffee makers that you would normal find in a typical rental home.

Staying at a tiny home while on vacation can be quite the adventure. If you aren’t claustrophobic and don’t mine driving a little way to get to popular tourist attractions, then you might find the idea of staying at a tiny home very appealing.
