What you must see in Mykonos

Built in a picture-perfect town of labyrinthine roads, whitewashed cube-like buildings with bougainvillea flowers pouring out of the quaint balconies that overlook the magnificent sparkling blue sea,  Mykonos, Greece an island part of the Cyclades, is known as “the jewel” of the Aegean for its cosmopolitan character, romantic atmosphere and intense nightlife.

Here area list of things to see and do in Mykonos Greece

Water Sports

  • Mykonos is also known as one of the best areas for scuba diving in the Aegean. Besides diving you can also enjoy sailing, kayaking and more water sports.

Beaches

  • Panormos is one of the top Beaches in Mykonos! Great place to enjoy the beach bar and people watch
  • Paradise and Nammos Beach: Be sure to visit the popular and trendy Paradise beach where you can listen to music and dance throughout the night on the powder-like sand, and watch the sunset from Nammos beach. Little Venice is where you want to be if you are looking for nighlife, bars, restaurants or little cafes.
  • Elia Beach is known for its comfortable loungers, turquoise colored waters as well as the service with great food by the beach.
  • Platis Gialos Beach is a must visit beach (be warned it gets very crowded) with very clean water, situated on an enclosed bay and many food options close by. Great Beach for families and couples.

Shopping

  • Matoyianni Street: lots of great little shops ranging from boutiques, to restaurants and art galleries. Lots to see and stroll at your own pace on this cobbled street!  Jewelry is something to seek out, though prices are high. You’ll pay dearly for designer pieces from Ilias Lalaounis—the name in Greek jewelry. It is a great places to people watch or take in the view of the sea.

Sights

  • Church of Paraportiani: one of the most photographed in Europe due to its unique shape its located near the bay and the center of town and right near the windmills, so its very easy to find

  • Aegean Maritime Museum: maritime history and antiques.  The Folklore Museum displays Myconian art, ceramics and embroidery. A trip to the neighboring island of Delos is the must-see excursion for those not dedicated to beaches. Visit the Archaeological site of Delos for the history buffs in your travel group. May people chose to take a guided tour to know exactly the sites to see. Try to get there early so you’ll have plenty of time to look around the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site.

  • The remains of many churches, chapels and shrines dot the island’s landscape. According to traditional lore, fishermen who ran into trouble at sea would pray for their lives to be spared, and those who made it back to land built shrines in gratitude. Many of these tiny, private chapels are near the homes of fishermen.
  • Armenistis Lighthouse is not easy to get to. You need a car, atv or bus ride to get there but well worth it. The views are amazing, you can see a number of the Greek islands from the top.
