Regent Seven Seas Explorer Pictures and Inaugural Cruise

Regent Seven Seas new ship, the Seven Seas Explorer, is the most luxurious ship to ever set sail. From the moment travelers step on board they will be able to tell that this ship is like no other.

Stats & Interesting Facts
-Seven Seas Explorer accommodates 750 guests.
– At 54,000 gross-registered tons it will be the Regent Seven Sea’s largest vessel in its fleet.
– The Explorer has the highest staff to guest ratios on any cruise ship.
– The atrium features 9 decks.
– There are 5,000 chandeliers & 2,500 pieces of art including 2 Picassos & a Chagall.
– The Regent Suite is 3,875 sq. ft and has a wraparound balcony, an in room spa retreat and a king mattress made by Savoir that cost $150,000.
– The cost of the Regent Suite is currently averaging $10K to $20K per night.
– The ship offers 6 dining options with no surcharges, but reservations are required for the new Pacific Rim restaurant as well as Prime 7.
– At the entrance of the Pacific Rim restaurant there is a prayer wheel made of cast-iron that cost around half a million dollars to make.
– Charges & bread plates in the main dining room (Compass Rose,) are by Versace. There is an elaborate glass blown Murano glass ceiling fixture that serves as the restaurants focal point. There are also hand-blown sunburst-shaped chandeliers throughout the Compass room.
– The Explorer caters to foodies in it’s Culinary Arts Centre where the head chef will offer demonstrations and classes in the 18 cooking stations with take home recipes.  (Classes cost $89 pp)  The ship also currently offers 22 gourmet explorer tours including visiting a Greek family restaurant in Rhodes with a cooking class, wine tasting at the La Croix in Provence followed by a gourmet dining experience at the renowned La Vague d’Or and cheese making in Sorrento before dinner at the lush garden restaurant Don Alfonso.

– The expansive teak-lined pool deck revolves around a salt water pool. Chairs are covered daily and attendants place towels on every chair.
– The ships godmother is Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco. World renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform at the inaugural.

Cabins
One of the unique things about the Explorer is that it is an all-suite, all-balcony cruise ship. The suites feature sophisticated décor such as designer furnishings, polished wood floors and eclectic pieces of artwork. The 369 suites will be spacious as their sizes range from 300 square feet (including balcony,) to about 3,875 square feet for the Regent Suite. Penthouse suites are 561 sq. ft., Seven Seas Suite are 743-918 sq. ft. and the Master Suite measures approximately 1,945 square feet.  For guests that book a concierge suite and above, a free 1 night pre-cruise luxury hotel is included in the cruise rate as well as ground transfers, breakfast and complimentary porterage before the cruise.

Dining
As with most of the Regent Seven Seas fleet, there will be a wide variety of dining options on this ship as well. Travelers can eat at one of the six open seating restaurants like Sette Mari at La Veranda that features Italian cuisine or at Prime 7 which is a gourmet steakhouse. On Deck 5 you can find The Cafe which serves made to order espressos and lattes.  You can also grab pastries, gourmet sandwiches and fresh baked cookies throughout the day. There is also a self serve coffee machine if you would like to make your own cup. Pictured here is the Compass main dining room.

Amenities
Travelers will not have to worry about being bored while cruising on the Explorer. Guests can grab a drink at one of the beautiful bars, visit the casino or outdoor pool, take a class in the fitness center, shop at the boutiques or watch a show in the lounge. For those who want a little bit of pampering there’s the Canyon Ranch SpaClub.  Deck 12 has a jogging track, an 18 hole putting green, shuffleboard, bocce court, a paddle tennis court and a netted area for driving golf balls.  Explorer offers a well stocked library with plenty of seating.  The Connoisseurs Club is open 24 hours per day for smokers.  Cigars and spirits are available in the evenings.

The ship will be christened tomorrow, July 13th.  In typical Regent style, the first cruise passengers that boarded today were invited to a “block party” after the mandatory muster drill so the guests could meet one another while enjoying champagne and hors d’ouvres.
