Festivals Around The World In September

Looking for something fun to do in September? Quirkiness, beer and music make up many of the festivals around the world next month. Here are some of the top ones for visitors to attend.

Bumbershoot, September 2-4, Seattle

This festival has been taking place since 1972, but didn’t get the official name of Bumbershoot until the following year. It features art, music, history, film and theater. It’s a great place to go for those that want to experience pop culture as there tend to be bloggers on hand to give lectures. One of the most interesting things about this event are the scheduled zombie walks that take place throughout it.

Electric Picnic, September 2-4, Stradbally

If you want to experience a one of a kind picnic, head over to Ireland during the month of September. This music festival feels fairly quaint with only around 50,000 people in attendance each year. The lineup of artists playing is usually pretty expansive with many of these seemingly unknown artists delivering a great show. When you are taking a break from watching the music, check out the funky art installations located throughout the festival. There are definitely some that are picture worthy and won’t easily be forgotten.

Regata Storica, September 4, Venice

This is the biggest boating event that takes place in Italy each year. It is filled with gondolas that look like they are right out of the 16^th century. Manning these vessels are costumed rowers at the helm. The event consists of four different races. The most popular one is the gondolini regatta that has two oarsmen in each boat and dozens of competitors trying to race to the finish. It’s quite an exciting time with everyone cheering the regattas on as they try to beat out their competitors.

Oktoberfest, September 17- October 3, Munich

This event is known for good food, including Bratwurst, cabbage and pretzels and of course a lot of beer. In fact, 7 million liters of beer is drunk during this event with a lot of it being 13.5% alcohol. It’s not surprising that during Oktoberfest there are a lot of drunk, disorderly attendees. However, that tends to add to the excitement of it all. In addition to the food and beer there are rides, music, dancing and constant activities taking place. It’s not uncommon for individuals to attend all 16 days of this event.
