Free Sculptures in New Orleans

I know it’s barely started, but I’m already over winter. I don’t know what it is about this year, but I’m angry when I have to put on a sweater and boots and scarf and coat. Usually, I get excited by soups and layers and coffee, but I’m just not feeling it. So, instead, I’m looking forward to warm weather in Southern California later this month and looking back at the muggy, warm temps of New Orleans.

That being said, I thought I’d bring you pics of one of my favorite places when I was on a city tour of The Big Easy. City Park is a huge park with a diner, a lake, a theme park and a whole lot more. I wish I had the time to explore it more, but instead,  I hit up Morning Call for beignets and coffee and then the free sculpture garden run by the New Orleans Museum of Art.

I don’t understand this at all. Maybe it’s a take on evolution? Whatever it means, it’s cool and freaky.

I’m a lover of different museums, but I’m definitely into one that’s free and outside when the weather cooperates. Luckily, Nola gets a lot of sun and when we visited it was in the high 80s, so not too hot for sightseeing. We made a quick turn around this garden for pics and to soak in some quality art of all kinds.

I’m in love with this weird bridge.

This tree is full of giant Mardi Gras beads.

that’s a person made out of letters – I feel like this embodies everyone’s anxieties.

No idea what this is, but I enjoy the interesting brickwork under it.

Next time I visit New Orleans, I’m going to rent a car to make a day of City Park, since there is so much to see and do. In the evenings, you can sit at Morning Call and get something to eat and listen to live jazz for free. I’d love to explore the open areas of the park and visit the theme park and the actual museum. You can take the bus to the park from the middle of the city, but it takes an hour or so and we had so much else to check out that we just couldn’t take that extra time out of our “schedule”.

What’s your favorite museum either from where you live or your travels?
