Sonoma’s Newest Restaurant Opens
Sonoma is known for its wine, but more recently it’s also become known for its restaurants. The newest addition to this region, Single Thread, has taken four years to complete. This one of a kind restaurant will give diners an experience that they won’t soon forget.
Course Offerings
Executive Chef Kyle Connaughton will offer his guests an 11-course meal at a fixed price each night. Many of these dishes will have a Japanese flair to them thanks to Connaughton’s culinary training in Japan. He will try to offer as mush seasonal produce as possible thanks to the nearby five-acre farm that that restaurant owns.
Why An 11 Course Meal
One of the things that makes a meal unique and memorable is the overall experience. That’s something that Connaughton wants to give each diner. He feels that the meal should incorporate not just the food, but the atmosphere, dishes and the staff. Single Thread has a lot of unique items like clay pots, sake and dynamic Asian flavors. This restaurant hopes that each of these builds on the other which will make it an enjoyable experience.
What Diners Can Expect
After diners walk through the door they will check in and then be led upstairs to the rooftop garden. Here, they will get to review the menu, ask questions and taste samples. They will then come downstairs and spend the next 3-4 hours engorging themselves in all of the different dishes. Throughout the meal, diners will also get the chance to learn about the Japanese culture including the concept of shun. Basically, shun refers to the seasonality of foods for their optimal flavor. Diners can enjoy two optional wine parings as well as non-alcoholic pairings. The wine focuses on both California and Old World varieties.
The Cost
Diners will have to pay $294 per person in advance of the meal. Advance payment is required so that all guests have to worry about is eating the meal and not paying for it as it’s already been taking care. Of course, if they order additional items, like more wine, they will need to pay for them after their meal. While almost $300 for one meal may seem very pricey, this is, after all, a unique experience. Guests get to eat 11 different courses prepared just for them, in an environment that is warm, inviting and very personalized. Diners won’t often find this in other restaurants.
