One of the best parts about this comic book store is the people that work here. They are more than willing to recommend comic books, order items they don’t have in stock or just talk about books that you are interested in. There’s also a lot of space to walk around in so you can easily look through a comic or two before you make a decision about what to buy. For those that want to meet other comic book enthusiasts, there are a lot of events including signing days, that take place throughout the year. Even those with kids can enjoy the store as there’s a special nook at the front of the store created just for kids. It includes children’s books and comics. This area can easily keep kids occupied while grownups do a little bit of browsing.

Meltdown Comics, Los Angeles, California

This 14,000-square foot store is a mecca for comic books. It features new books, classics and some of the greats. There are also toys, collectibles and more merchandise than you could ever imagine. Want to see some art or need a bite to eat? You can partake in both here! They have an art gallery and food trucks often park out front. Podcasts are taped in the NerdMelt Showroom and there’s even live comedy that takes place. Basically, this comic book store offers so much more than just comic books. It’s a place to read, eat, watch and be entertained.

Crescent City Comics, New Orleans

Open for more than 15 years, even Hurricane Katrina couldn’t permanently take this comic book store down. Readers can find both comics and graphic novels, with some of them having been curated by the staff that works here. Much of the literature is arranged in alphabetic order which makes for easy browsing (if you know what you’re looking that is). Looking for a special gift? There are a variety of toys, games, apparel and action figures to purchase. One of the favorite events that takes place here is the release events that feature free beer.

Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, Charlotte, NC

The founder of HeroesCon, Shelton Drum, opened this shop in 1980. After it moved to its current location in 2002, it really took off. Both those that have been in the comic book scene for a while and new readers can’t get enough of this store. Here you can find everything from manga, memorabilia and newly released comics. The store is easy to browse in and has a great atmosphere with its large Spidey and Doctor Octopus figures battling each other while suspended over the cash registers.

Arcane Comics, Seattle, Washington

This comic book store has a very welcoming vibe. The weekly subscription program lets you preorder titles that are delivered in a personalized box every week with no deposit or title minimums. Not sure what comic books to buy when you are at the store? The monthly “Best Reads” will certainly steer you in the right direction. This store is a great place to find back issues that are hard to come by or interesting gadgets like action hero bottle openers.

Midtown Comics, NYC

If you are looking for a particular comic book, you are bound to find it here as this is the largest comic book and collectibles shop in the country. They have half a million back issues to choose from as well as many other comic books. With two stories full of items to browse, it’s easy to spend hours here. The staff is also very helpful and welcoming even to those that have not really gotten into comic books much.
