Ireland’s Most Scenic Drives

For those that want to take a drive through Ireland’s most scenic drives, they are in a for a real treat. There are a variety of scenic drives to take. From the countryside to the waterways, there is a virtually experience for everyone.

 The Wicklow Mountains

Be prepared for a lot of twists and turns on this drive. Within only about 45 minutes from the Dundrum Town Centre, this route allows you to see the River Liffey and the Glenmacnass Waterfall. The total distance of this drive is about 60 miles.

Boyne Valley

This drive is filled with a lot of history. However, this figure eight shaped route is close to 140 miles and there are 22 different historic sites to see along the way. The Boyne Valley Food Series is a favorite among tourists if you happen to be here during the right time as there are a variety of foodie events that take place here throughout the year. Towns you will go through include Trim, Navan and Drogheda. It’s not uncommon for tourists to stop and spend the night in one of these towns.

 Fanad Peninsula

There are many different scenic spots here on this close to 60 mile drive.  Accordingly, for Star Wars lovers, they can see a variety of locations on the Inishowen 100. There’s also one of the best beaches in the country here, Portsalon. The Ballymastocker Bay is absolutely beautiful and a great place to stop at for a swim.

Valley Route At Kilkenny’s River

If you are looking for a scenic Irish drive, definitely check out this route. You can see everything from a 10-arched stone bridge as well as the Woodstock Gardens. You can even stop at the National Reptile Zoo to get out and stretch your legs for a bit before hopping back in the car. This drive’s a little less than 50 miles.

 Beara

Located south of The Ring of Kerry, this route doesn’t have a lot of traffic, so you can easily take it slow as you are enjoying the view. However, there are a variety of turns and twists to enjoy and the view of a cable car over the Atlantic Ocean. This drive is over 100 miles long and it could take you over a day to complete if you plan on making a lot of stops.

 Sky Road, Connemaras

This close to 10 mile drive basically takes you in one big circle along the coast of Connemara. You can see views of the Twelve Bens and Inishturk. Furthermore, if you feel like getting a little bit of exercise, you can hop on your bike to experience the scenery.
