Packing Your Car For The Ultimate Road Trip

Whether you are heading to camp or visit relatives, no car ride is comfortable with luggage just haphazardly placed everywhere. You can start your trip out on a good or bad note just based on the way you pack your car. Here are some tips for packing your car when going on the ultimate road trip.

Space

How you pack your car will depend a lot on the space you have. Heavy or bulky items should be packed in the trunk. Things should not be piled all the way up to the ceiling in the car. This creates a hazard since the driver won’t be able to see well and if there’s a car accident, passengers can get injured by all the items. If you really have to bring so much stuff that it will barely fit in the car, consider getting a luggage carrier to place on top of the car or shipping some of your items to your destination.

Emergency Preparedness Kit

Things happen when on the road. Whether it be car issues or someone getting hurt, you need to have an emergency preparedness kit just in case something happens. This kit should be easily accessible and you shouldn’t have to dig under all of your luggage to get to it. Items to pack in your kit include:

-Flares or hazard triangles

-Warming blankets

-Fire extinguisher

This will save from unnecessary pit stops and having to pay for high-priced snacks at a convenience store. Whatever you pack make sure that it’s easy to eat and won’t leave behind too many crumbs. Good options include sandwiches and fruit.

Entertainment

Along the way your passengers are going to need some entertainment. No one wants to hear the dreaded two words “I’m bored” miles before their destination. You can always opt for things like a portable TV or tablet. However, if you want to cut down on screen time, consider packing busy bags. Basically you fill large, resalable freezer bags with small items to entertain the user. You can put anything in there from coloring books and crayons to a decks of cards or even a few books.

Car Cleanliness Items

Your car is probably going to get fairly messy while on a road trip. This can make for a rather uncomfortable experience. Try to tidy up your car when you stop for gas or get to your destination. Items like trash bags, a small dustpan and a broom or even a portable vacuum don’t take up a lot of space and can easily be stowed under the seat.
