Destination: Antarctica… The Adventure Continues

The Ultimate Bucket List Destination

Like for many of my friends and colleagues in the travel business, Antarctica has long been the quintessential feather in the traveler’s hat that we all seek. I’ve been inspired by several people that I know who have made the journey and have read books on and studied documentaries on the great explorers like Shakelton who pioneered the exploration of the last continent. So it is with great pleasure that I get to announce that I’ll be travelling to the icy continent along with nine intrepid guests on a photo scouting expedition to Antarctica, South Georgia Island, and the South Shetland Islands in January of 2019.

The journey begins in style in Buenos Aires, Argentina where we will have the opportunity to explore this beautiful city before flying to the very bottom of the South American continent in Ushuaia for the embarkation to our ship that will transport us in style to all of our polar destinations. From there we will head to South Georgia Island for some of the most amazing displays of wildlife on Earth. There are over 300,000 King penguins on the island and I can just imagine the sight, sounds, and yes… the smell! Standing more than 3ft tall, king penguins are among the largest of the world’s 17 species of penguin. This is going to be (to use a word I rarely use;-)) AWESOME!

While that sounds like a lot of birds, get ready for a mind-blowing statistic. There are roughly 50 MILLION seabirds and several million seals on South Georgia. There are also a total of 3 million penguins (including the King penguins) that call the island home. This is exactly the reason why I made sure that our team gets to visit this unique destination on route to the Antarctic peninsula. I firmly believe that when we have the opportunity to do something above and beyond the normal experience on a tour, we do just that.

After running a very successful Photo Safari in Tanzania last year, this Antarctic expedition is like the icing on the cake of destinations I’m able to now provide to all the wonderful photographers that travel with me all over this beautiful planet. Does this mean that I’m done with new locations, destinations, and countries to explore and share with you? Why of course not!  Stay tuned… there’s more to come.
