Famous Ghouls, Ghosts And Monsters

Growing up we all heard stories about some terrible monsters or ghosts that terrified us so much that it probably kept us up all night. Although these creatures aren’t real, they can be equally frightening. Where did these stories come from? Why are they so popular? Here’s the history of some of the most famous ghouls, ghosts and monsters.

Casper
This is a fairly friendly ghost! He has starred in both a cartoon series and a movie named, Casper. His full name is Casper McFadden and he tends to be more helpful than harmful. There’s no need to be terrified of this ghost as he’s probably more scared of you then you are of him!

Frankenstein
Mary Shelley, an English author, created the story of Frankenstein in her novel, Frankenstein in 1818. In the book he was made by a young scientist as part of a science experiment. He is quite scary and is often referred to as a demon and a monster in the book.

Dracula
The creature has similar routes to that of Frankenstein. Irish author, Bram Stoker, created him in his 1897 novel, Dracula. Vampires have been around for years supposedly and Dracula is sort of a vampire in modern form. In the book Dracula tries to move to England from Transylvania to find new blood, but it doesn’t go so well for him or the people that encounter him.

Big Foot
While some people think big foot is a myth, others have sworn that they have actually seen him. He can best be described as a large, hairy creature that has some human like qualities. Most sightings have taken place in the Pacific Northwest and despite scientists and researchers trying to find him, they haven’t had much luck. Still, many people do go on hunts each year to try to find him or at least prove his existence.

Bloody Mary
Unlike the other ghosts, ghouls and monsters on this list, Bloody Mary will actually appear on demand, or at least that’s what the legend states. All you have to do is say her name three times while staring in a mirror in a dimly lit room. Legend states that Bloody Mary is the ghost of Queen Mary I who had many miscarriages. Being able to see Bloody Mary after staring in a mirror for a while is thought to be caused by hallucinations and the mind playing tricks.
