One Day You May Be Able To Stay In Self Driving Hotel Room

If you’ve ever been on a road trip before, you know just how much time is spent having to stop to go to the bathroom or to get something to eat. It also can be rather uncomfortable having to sit in a car for a long trek. Sure, you can rent an RV to be a little more comfortable, but you still have to drive and try to navigate the roads with such a large vehicle. In the future, there may be another option for travelers that are looking for rather interesting accommodations. A self-driving hotel room may make for the perfect travel companion. While not available yet, it may become a reality in about 10 years.

The Autonomous Travel Suite
Designer, Steve Lee, thought up the idea for The Autonomous Travel Suite. Basically, this driverless suite comes with everything you need to get around, plus be able to sleep. The suite could sleep up to five people and would feature a sitting shower, toilet, a small space to work and a kitchen. There would also be air mattresses to sleep on. While it won’t have any extra amenities like traditional hotels, it will have everything a traveler needs to be comfortable while on the road.

10 Hours Of Travel Time
The Autonomous Travel Suite will be battery powered and is expected to be able to travel for up to about 10 hours. This self-driving hotel room was part of a competition for the hospitality industry and won the Radical Innovation Award for 2018. While this idea may seem a little out there for some, self-driving vehicles may be on the road in the next year or two, so why not a self-driving hotel room?

Unfortunately, the Autonomous Travel Suite isn’t expected to be available until 2030. If it actually becomes a reality, it would eliminate the need of having to deal with the security process at the airport or having to rent a car to get to a destination and stop at a hotel along the way. It would provide a lot more flexibility and comfort. While there’s no word yet on exactly how much it would cost, it’s expected to be very affordable. For some, the benefits will far outweigh the cost of it as they can travel comfortably and will not have to concentrate on things like driving or dealing with a lot of other travelers.
