How To Avoid Expensive Extras While Traveling

So many people get hung up on travel plans because of budget concerns – but why wait to go somewhere if you may not have to? You don’t necessarily have to spend a lot to see new places, particularly if you are able to plan and, as part of your strategy, avoid some of the spending traps so many tourists fall prey to. That’s not to say you shouldn’t set aside what money you can to enjoy yourself with while you’re abroad. But where some of the following areas are concerned, you might be able to save a significant chunk of cash. 

Transportation

To put it bluntly, don’t pay for a taxi when you can use another form of transportation – at least provided your alternative is safe. While you may be hesitant to try a bus or subway if you’ve never learned how to use one to get around, it’s usually easy to learn and most locals will help you figure out the system. Remember you can always ask someone if you need help, and even if you’re lost, getting directions can be easier than it’s ever been, so long as you have a smartphone with you. 

Another option, at least at many destinations around the world (and more with each passing month), is to use a ride-sharing program like Uber or Lyft, rather than a full-price taxi service. If you haven’t used these apps in a while, you may have a coupon waiting for you – and if you’ve never used them, you may get a free ride upon download! Whatever the case, a ride on one of these platforms will typically cost you less than a taxi trip.
