Luang Prabang 2017 - River Cruise

One of the best way to spend a couple of hours in Luang Prabang is to take a sunset river cruise. There are many operators offering the cruises and there are some stories on the Net about tourists being ripped off. Basically, the cruise prices are quite standard but they try to get you through expensive drinks and snacks on board. We chose one operated by a French guy who has received some positive reviews – Sa Sa Sunset Cruise. The price for the 2-hour cruise (USD10) includes a cocktail which was good value. Snacks on board are also reasonably priced.

The cruise takes you down the Mekong River past where it meets the Nam Khan River. The sights along the way are very scenic – especially the mountains which surround Luang Prabang. Then it turns around and sails past Luang Prabang – and continues for about 2km until it reached a fork the river where you wait for the sunset. The sunset in Luang Prabang is really quite spectacular.
