Dan Hynes has campaigned against sitting Governor Pat Quinn primarily focused on deficit control and bringing fiscal responsibility to Government.

Never seen as a bare-fisted dealmaker in the classic Chicago style, Hynes said he wants to be the sort of serious, wonkish governor who is too busy fixing the budget to hold daily news conferences.
In recent weeks, Hynes has adopted a tougher style, more befitting the brawling heritage of the 19th Ward, where his career was nurtured. He has used his campaign fundraising advantage to air TV attack ads pounding Quinn’s record running state prisons. It’s an issue that could frighten voters into paying attention to him as the Feb. 2 primary approaches.
Though crime rates continue to decline in Chicago and Illinois, the Hynes campaign seized on Associated Press reports last month detailing a new Illinois Department of Corrections policy allowing some inmates with shorter sentences to go free after just days or weeks in state custody.
