Cindy Sheehan's Running For California Governor

Cindy Sheehan, one of America’s leading peace and justice female activists, has announced her candidacy for governor of the state of California on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket.

“Having been involved in the anti-war movement for the last 8 1/2 years, I have long worked for positive change globally,” Cindy Sheehan said in a written statement on Tuesday. “Since my son Casey was killed in the illegal and immoral war in Iraq, I have worked tirelessly to spread the word of Peace.”

Although recognized for her anti-war activities, Sheehan has also worked with thousands of people on other social justice issues directly impacting her friends and neighbors in California.

“My family and I now feel it is time for me to once again seek office to bring forth positive solutions to many of the problems that face so many of our people,” stated Sheehan. “It is with great excitement and humility that I have decided to run for Governor of the State of California on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket.”

Jerry Brown has pushed Californians in the same direction as most U.S,. politicians, Sheehan says – “backwards.”

“He has cut services for the disabled, reduced the pensions of teachers and public workers, and decimated environmental protections. For years he has defied a court order to provide basic health care and relieve overcrowding in California’s inhumane prisons.”

Sheehan’s platform includes: Free quality education at all levels for everyone; Health care and housing as human rights, not privileges for the few; Protecting natural ecosystems, and rejecting oil extraction projects, such as fracking and water diversion projects (tunnels in the San Joaquin Delta); Supporting independent and family farms; Dismantling the prison industrial complex; and Stopping police brutality.
