Why Liberals Should Support Obtaining CCW Permits

There are a few States that don’t have any laws restricting concealed carry for handguns. Wyoming is one of those states. For the rest of us in order to be able to carry a pistol on your person without it being visible to everyone around, you need to get a permit.

For instance, a few weeks ago I moved back to my home State of Colorado after having lived under communist rule in California for the last 15 years. I was stationed in California in the Navy, then stayed there for a while when I got out. Colorado is known as a “shall issue state” for concealed carry. That basically means that if you are legally allowed to own a firearm, the State cannot deny you a permit to carry concealed. That being said, you still need to go through the process of obtaining a permit.

True, in Colorado and in many other States, you don’t need to have a permit to open carry a handgun. The advantage of having a Carrying Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit is that you don’t alarm any gun fearing pussies in the area. Also, if an attacker comes in, they are more likely to target the immediate threat (aka the guy with a gun on his hip). With a concealed weapon, nobody knows you have it, including the bad guys.

So what is the point of this post then? Well being as how most liberals cry about how there should be more background checks,  they should be overjoyed to learn that in order to receive a CCW permit, one must subject themselves to an extensive background check process. Not only that, but in many cases (Certainly in Colorado) one must obtain a training certificate from a licensed CCW training facility before they can even begin the background process.

I am going though this process now. I obtained a training certificate a few weeks ago, and just this morning I went down to the Sheriff’s station to get my fingerprints taken for my background check. Now I have to wait about four weeks for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to do a thorough background check on me. After that I have to go back to the Sheriff’s station to get my picture taken for a photo ID.

The long and short of it is that liberals should be more than comfortable knowing that if there are people on the streets carrying a concealed weapon legally, then that person has been thoroughly vetted by the government to assure that person has no criminal history. After all, isn’t that what most liberals are asking for?

Not to mention that CCW holders provide another layer of security for anyone around them in the event of a mass shooting. Liberals should be happy that someone took the time to go through additional government scrutiny in order to protect their pacifist asses in an emergency situation.
