A few of us were shaking our heads while we watched the initial returns and wondering what was going on. -Name Deleted- said it was the “football ad.” I had no idea what he was talking about so had to be told about a recent Monday Night football ad that Gillespie ran that put the Redskins name controversy front and center. He thinks that ad contributed to a big number of voters breaking late for Gillespie that the polling data had no time to discover. If that’s true I bet it had a lot to do with Eric Wilson who was part of the Gillespie team. Eric is the kind of fresh outlook Republican who is pushing the party to understand the new campaign dynamics that the Democrats have been using to defeat us nationally the last two out of three cycles.

What I did call right on was the mess in North Carolina. That huge jump in absentee ballots had a lot of us very concerned. We knew there was a good chance ten percent or more of those ballots were fraudulent and favoring the Hagen vote. They knew that too. They’re not so cocky around here this morning though! They all arrived late, and since then the door has been closed. Unhappy campers down the hall today! I am so proud of the late in the game work that was done to counter the attempt to steal it from us, and even more proud of all the North Carolina voters who came out and made that theft impossible. There were just too many honest votes to be overcome this time. Awesome job NC voters!
