Senator Wants Explanation Why Justice Department Isn’t Investigating Ukraine-DNC Collusion

Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ seat continues to get hotter by the day.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump put an exclamation point behind his dismay with the former senator’s refusal to investigate the crimes of the Democrats and Hillary Clinton via Twitter:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!

Trump also asked the million-dollar question – why in the hell hasn’t there been a serious effort made to get to the bottom of the foreign country that has been confirmed to have meddled in the election – Ukraine:

But it’s not only Trump who is now seeking an explanation on why the Justice Department isn’t actively investigating foreign meddling in the 2016 election on behalf of the Democrats and specifically a Ukrainian agent who was working within the DNC.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of the Judiciary Committee has sent a formal request to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on why Alexandra Chalupa (spelled like the Taco Bell item) has received little scrutiny over what was a blatant case of lobbying friendly media sources to plant stories about Paul Manafort and the alleged Russian hacking of the DNC.

Rosenstein is tasked with responding thanks to Session’s rapid recusal of himself from the Russian witch hunt shortly after he assumed office, a matter that seriously pissed off the POTUS.

The Daily Caller is reporting “Senator Asks DOJ About Democrats’ Work With Ukraine To Smear Trump Campaign”:

The Senate Judiciary Committee is questioning whether the Democratic National Committee violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by working with Ukrainian government officials to undermine Donald Trump’s presidential campaign last year.

In a letter sent to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley pointed to a report published by Politico in January laying out DNC official Alexandra Chalupa’s collaboration with Ukrainian politicians to compile research on Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman.

Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American activist who is no longer affiliated with the DNC, was paid $70,000 as a consultant for the party during the 2016 presidential cycle. She was paid $412,000 between 2004 and last year.

Republicans have recently latched onto the Politico expose as evidence of a double standard in the reporting about the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian attorney who allegedly promised to provide opposition research on Hillary Clinton.

Trump critics have responded by pointing out that Ukraine is not an adversary of the U.S., as is Russia. The Ukrainian effort also appears to be far less sophisticated than the Kremlin’s efforts to hack Democrats’ emails and disseminate them through several websites. The DNC-Ukraine collaboration also did not directly involve the Clinton campaign.

It is very difficult to not make the case that the Deep State, Democrats and the media haven’t been engaged in an active coverup of Ms. Chalupa’s time at the DNC and exactly what her job entailed.

According to the much-referenced Politico story “Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire”:

A daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who maintains strong ties to the Ukrainian-American diaspora and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Chalupa, a lawyer by training, in 2014 was doing pro bono work for another client interested in the Ukrainian crisis and began researching Manafort’s role in Yanukovych’s rise, as well as his ties to the pro-Russian oligarchs who funded Yanukovych’s political party.

In an interview this month, Chalupa told Politico she had developed a network of sources in Kiev and Washington, including investigative journalists, government officials and private intelligence operatives. While her consulting work at the DNC this past election cycle centered on mobilizing ethnic communities — including Ukrainian-Americans — she said that, when Trump’s unlikely presidential campaign began surging in late 2015, she began focusing more on the research, and expanded it to include Trump’s ties to Russia, as well.

She occasionally shared her findings with officials from the DNC and Clinton’s campaign, Chalupa said. In January 2016 — months before Manafort had taken any role in Trump’s campaign — Chalupa told a senior DNC official that, when it came to Trump’s campaign, “I felt there was a Russia connection,” Chalupa recalled. “And that, if there was, that we can expect Paul Manafort to be involved in this election,” said Chalupa, who at the time also was warning leaders in the Ukrainian-American community that Manafort was “Putin’s political brain for manipulating U.S. foreign policy and elections.”

It would seem odd that there has been no visible effort by any of the investigative bodies to grill Chalupa over what she knew and when she knew it as well as to find out who else was colluding with the DNC on behalf of the Ukrainian government.

If the Justice Department isn’t investigating her and Congress isn’t investigating her you can bet the farm that special counsel Robert Mueller isn’t investigating her either.

This story is becoming too big to ignore anymore, especially with Mueller and his partisan investigators zeroing in on Trump.
